How does one go from prayer walking to outpost ministry to baptism? It starts with Dave and an invitation. Dave is an ordinary man like you and I. He is a believer in Jesus Christ, he prays, and he attends church. In August 2019 Crossroads Community Church started promoting 30 Days Kickstart into the Harvest Field. This was to be a time of praying and fasting, with a devotional, to help prepare hearts and minds for the harvest field. “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.” (Matthew 9:37) As Matthew 28:19 states: “Therefore, go and make disciples.” With this 30 Day Kickstart there were three days of prayer walking; September 2nd, 9th, and16th. For many, including Dave, September 2nd were their first time prayer walking. In this case, prayer walking is a time to come together, start with an initial prayer then walk as you pray to whatever location you believe the Holy Spirit is leading.
This prayer walking led to working at pop up pantry (P.U.P.) September 28th. P.U.P. is a produce truck which brings in produce from our Michigan farmers. The semi truck is unloaded at Crossroads then the food is distributed between three locations. Dave was one of many who went door to door offering the food and, as the Holy Spirit led, prayed with people.
From the P.U.P. Dave was invited to an outpost retreat. At the outpost retreat those present discussed the dynamics of an outpost. “Outposts are serving partnerships with communities to raise up churches where everyday life occurs.”
It struck Dave during the outpost retreat he needed to be baptized; yet, he was ok where he was at. As Dave’s prayer walks and prayers with others increased, so did the feeling of conviction became stronger. The Spirit became adamant that he should be baptized sooner, not later. Dave stated: “How do I have the right to pray for people when I haven’t committed my life to Jesus Christ?” Out of obedience to the Holy Spirit, Dave was baptized. When Pastor Josh asked: “Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?” Dave replied: “I surrender!” Dave was then immersed according to the Scriptures. “As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water.” (Mark 3:16)
This is how Dave went from prayer walking to outpost ministry to baptism; an invitation. Are you ready to invest your life for the eternal transformation of someone else?
